Denver, Colorado. September 15, 2011 – John A. Eckstein, a director at Fairfield and Woods, will be presented with the St. Thomas More Award on September 25. The award is given by the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Colorado to individuals who exemplify the intellect, integrity, and moral courage of St. Thomas More in service to God, family and profession.

Eckstein, a member of the firm's corporate group, represents technology-based companies, venture capital funds, individual investors, investment bankers, financial advisors and financial institutions in corporate- and securities-related transactions. He has previously been named a Five Star Wealth Manager for his business investment advising, and a Colorado Super Lawyer. He also is a member of the Colorado Chief Justice’s Commission on the Legal Profession. Eckstein received his law degree from the University of Virginia, his masters in international relations from Johns Hopkins University SAIS, and his undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa.

The St. Thomas More Award is given annually at a breakfast program following the Red Mass, so named because of the color of the celebrant's vestments. The specific purpose of the Mass is to invoke the assistance of the Holy Spirit in the daily activities of the legal community during the forthcoming judicial year. Public officials, the judiciary and members of the bar, regardless of faith, are invited to participate. This year, the Red Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., September 25, at the Catholic Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan Street, Denver.

The Red Mass is a primary activity of the Catholic Lawyers Guild of Colorado, which has been in existence since 1960.
