Real estate work generally improves the community, and seeing it come to fruition is so compelling to me.

Bio

Steven represents local, regional, and national developers throughout the lifecycle of a commercial development project from due diligence and acquisition to entitlement, leasing and selling. Steven’s real estate work focuses on leasing and financing, sale and purchase, subdivision, construction and other land development matters as well as handling disputes related to commercial development.

Whether working with a family-owned business or a national developer, Steven’s focus is on understanding the client’s objectives and working to incorporate those goals into every aspect of the transaction. A budding high school football referee, Steven is exacting, precise, and thorough in all areas of his practice. His work includes assisting a local storage company in its acquisition to a larger competitor, as well as working to develop a commercial development agreement for the developer of a planned community. Steven is well versed in all aspects of real estate law, and he has recently assisted a novice investor in evaluating and implementing a comprehensive, significant real estate investment plan.

Steven’s projects frequently include mixed-use development issues, and he excels at navigating the complex issues each stakeholder brings to the transaction. Steven’s experience also includes representing the developer of a sizeable retail shopping center in the leasing of space to anchor tenants and the ground leasing of adjacent pad sites to NNN retailers. He has also assisted a major home developer in its acquisition and sale of property in Texas for more than $50 million. Steven has also handled the appeal of an administrative court decision before the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit.

Before joining Fairfield and Woods, Steven worked in private practice at a regionally focused firm based in Houston, Texas. Prior to that, he was a judicial intern with Judge Gray Miller of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas and Justice Martha Hill Jamison of the Fourteenth Court of Appeals of Texas.
